I Literally Wrote the Book on Being a Great Podcast Guest

By Mark X. Cronin

It started with a sock and a dream  and grew into over 300 podcast appearances and now, a chapter in a book that teaches others how to do the same.

John and I have always believed in the power of storytelling. It’s how we connect, how we inspire, and how we drive change. That’s why we’ve leaned so heavily into podcast interviews as a way to spread our mission of inclusion and happiness. So when the team at PodMatch, the platform that connects podcast hosts and guests, invited me to contribute a chapter to their new book, PodMatch Guest Mastery, the answer was easy:

Yes. Let’s help others share their story too.

From First Interview to 300+ Appearances (and Counting)

When we first started John’s Crazy Socks, our goal was simple: to show the world what people with differing abilities can do. John, who has Down syndrome, came to me with the idea to sell socks. Today, he’s the co-founder and Chief Happiness Officer of the world’s largest sock store, and over half our employees have differing abilities.

But our mission was never just about socks, it was about connection. And podcasting became one of our most powerful platforms.

We’ve had the privilege of appearing on more than 300 podcast interviews, ranging from entrepreneurship and e-commerce to parenting, inclusion, and leadership. Some of the hosts have invited us back multiple times because the conversation goes deeper than just business. It goes to the heart of what’s possible when we lead with love, purpose, and inclusion.

Why PodMatch Guest Mastery Matters

PodMatch is more than a booking tool — it’s a bridge. It helped us find the right podcasts for our message and build real relationships with hosts and listeners.

In the book PodMatch Guest Mastery, I share:

✅ How we built a repeatable, personalized system for pitching podcast hosts
✅ Why we created a full Guest Podcast Kit to make life easier for our hosts
✅ The biggest mistake I made early on (hint: it involved email chaos and no routine)
✅ Our tips for standing out and delivering interviews that get remembered
✅ Why podcasting isn’t just publicity, it’s purpose in action

We even created email templates tailored to different podcast themes (business, education, parenting, etc.), and we always provide a post-show follow-up. Why? Because we don’t just want to appear on your podcast, we want to help you make it shine.

Want to Know the Secret? It’s Not Really About Us.

Here’s the thing: we don’t do podcasts to sell socks. We do them to spread happiness, and to show what people with differing abilities can achieve when given a chance.

As John says, “Down syndrome never holds me back.”
And as his dad and business partner, I see that every single day.

Whether we’re on a podcast for entrepreneurs or parents, HR leaders or nonprofit founders, we’re always looking to share real stories, spark joy, and move people to action. Podcasts help us do that in a deeply personal and scalable way.

Before we do a podcast interview, we  always ask two questions:

Tell us about your audience: we want to understand the people to whom we are speaking so we can tailor our presentation for them we want to be of service to that audience.

What can we do to be great guests: to paraphrase President Kennedy, we don’t ask that podcasts hosts what the podcast can do for us but what we can do for them.

You Can Book Us And You’ll Get More Than a Guest

When you book us on your show, you’re not just getting a guest,  you’re getting a story that moves people, insights that resonate, and a team that actively promotes every episode across:
